Niagara Falls, ON – The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights’ new event, Deck the Falls Holiday Walking Tour, received rave reviews from attendees (testimonials attached). With the event now completed, organizers have presented awards to designers as part of the event’s décor competition.

Deck the Falls had thirteen participating venues along the tour, including ten venues with lobbies that were “decked-out” for the holidays with stunning festive décor! Attendees were able to judge each venue’s décor by providing a rating from one to five stars using the WFOL Mobile Application.

Décor at the Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel was rated as the top design along the tour; this venue’s Celebrity Designer was Janette Ewan. At the Old Stone Inn, Janette’s work featured many woodland elements creating an enchanted forest feel with natural accoutrements like moss, decorative wolves’ heads and owls. In recognition of her top-rated décor, a $5,000 donation will be made in Janette’s name to the Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada, a charity that has been brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families for over 25 years by bringing them joy, laughter and relief.

Deck the Falls also included five teams of student designers from the Humber College Interior Design program. Each of these five teams were mentored by one of the Celebrity Designers. The top rated student designed venue was the Radisson Hotel and Suites Fallsview by students Sophie Bisnaire & Bahar Honarpisheh; their design had an artic woodland theme featuring a giant polar bear as the focal point. For their winning efforts, this design team will receive a $1,500 bursary in support of their education.

Attendees who rated the décor using the WFOL Mobile Application had the chance to win a Niagara Falls Prize Package which includes a complimentary overnight stay for two in Niagara Falls, two adult Niagara Helicopter Passes and Niagara Attractions Passes; this prize was won by Ela Wodala.

Deck the Falls Testimonials:

#deckthefalls was amazing. A great way to explore the hotels, get inspired for the holidays and eat some great food with family/friends. Can’t do it all in one night.

Just made the trip across the boarder yesterday and the lights were worth the trip. My family also bought tickets for the deck the falls tour, definitely worth buying. The people were great at each stop and the price is truly a bargain. We enjoyed the food and drink at each stop and we hope this tradition continues in the future.

Took my mom, step dad and sister last night to Deck the Falls holiday walking tour….what an amazing night. It was like trick o treating at Christmas!!! Each place you went you were amazed by the beautiful decorations and surprised with so many amazing treats! We were full!! My 80 year old step dad said next time he won’t eat dinner, cause he was enjoying the treats so much and he wants to buy four more tickets for next weekend to sample all over again! Everyone was so friendly and the volunteers amazing! Each hotel had something to offer that you visited and it was just amazing. We didn’t feel rushed to finish since you can break it up over the two weekends and it just gives us another reason to go out and enjoy the season. Great date night or girls night out for anyone looking for something festive to do this holiday season! Great job to Tina Myers and her team, and all the volunteers. Thank you for making the festive season even more festive!

Had the best night out with some of my favorites. If you are looking for a great night out with some friends or even an amazing date night I highly recommend #deckthefalls you pay $35 and can stop at 13 hotels each with something to do, eat or drink all included in your price. We are stuffed! We were there all night and didn’t even have time to finish it all, so we’ll be back next weekend!
