WFOL Helps Strengthen our City

The Festival Actively Gives Back Year-Round

The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights is active in our community throughout the year, helping out with local activities, rallying volunteers for events in Niagara and striving to make Niagara Falls a better place to live.

Heater’s Heroes

Here is a touching video of one of the Heater’s Heroes children from 2016, Owen Putney. Despite having some serious medical challenges since birth, he has lots of energy and is always smiling. Tina Myers and the Winter Festival of Lights committee made Owen’s Christmas when he had the opportunity to light up the Falls and help set off the Fireworks over the holidays.

Arts & Culture

As part of the Niagara Region’s Niagara Invests in Culture program, the Winter Festival of Lights unveiled a new art sculpture at Heartland Forest in Niagara Falls on June 19, 2017. The piece entitled ‘The Interference and Reconciliation of Man’ is a wooden sculpture created by local artist Adam Buller of BrainKite Artistic Solutions. The natural setting of Heartland Forest makes it the perfect venue for this public art installation. The placement of this sculpture will create an exquisite photo opportunity for visitors. It also creates a nice spot to relax and take in both art and nature.

Community Clean Sweep

The Ontario Power Winter Festival of Lights staff and volunteers are regular participants in the Niagara Falls Community Clean Sweep. The Clean Sweep brings volunteers from across Niagara Falls together who gather in teams and help to rid our City of debris. Twice each year, Spring and Fall, volunteers scatter throughout parks, trails, walkways and main street boulevards with recycling and garbage bags, collecting litter to enhance our city’s environment.

Misty Kids

The Winter Festival of Lights Misty Kids make appearances throughout the year at events around Niagara such as Parades, Heartland Forest Pumpkinfest and Niagara-on-the-Lake Easter Bunny Trail.
