[ Back to Media ] Thousands Raised for Project S.H.A.R.E Christmas Program 5th Annual CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run Presented by RBC Royal Bank a Great Success! Niagara Falls, ON – The Winter Festival of Lights is pleased to announce results of the 5th Annual CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run presented by RBC Royal Bank, which was held yesterday. The Overall Men’s winner with a time of 18 minutes, 02 seconds was Kyle Varley of Niagara Falls, ON, while the Overall Women’s winner was Josiane Aboungono of Milton, ON with a time of 19:57. Each was awarded a $250 cash prize for their achievements. A complete list of winners, by age category, in both male and female divisions is attached. In total, over 260 runners participated from as far away as Ireland; this represented an increase in participants of nearly 30 percent versus last year. The CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run presented by RBC Royal Bank was started as a way to encourage outdoor, wintertime physical activity while raising food and cash donations for Project S.H.A.R.E’s Christmas Program. This year, $5,581 and a couple hundred pounds of food were raised for the Christmas Program. This year’s CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run introduced the CYTEC Corporate Challenge, providing an opportunity for the corporate community to enter the 5k Race or Fun Run while raising donations for Project S.H.A.R.E. The Corporate Challenge winners were the Wendy Leard School of Dance and CYTEC Canada. “The funds raised was nearly double the amount raised last year,” stated Jeff Guarasci, Development Manager of Project S.H.A.R.E.. “It is due to the efforts of so many people that this is possible, including the herculean efforts of John Bedell who secured $1,290 and Katherine Gall, who raised $1,005 in pledges. With the number of families needing our help increasing, monies raised from events like the Candy Cane Lane 5k Race are critical.” On hand to present the awards was Darda Sales, two-time, Paralympic medalist (gold and silver) and world record holder in the 4x100m medley relay. The Winter Festival of Lights would like to acknowledge the support of CYTEC Canada, RBC Royal Bank, Lundy’s Lane BIA, Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel, Canada Factory One Outlet Mall, Americana Resort & Water Park, Falls Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC, 105.1 FM and event co-organizer, the Niagara Falls International Marathon. -30- Contact: Dino Fazio, General Manager, WFOL, 905 374-1616 x. 46, dino@WFOL.com 5th Annual CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race Results Overall Women’s Winner City Time Josiane Aboungono Milton, ON 19:57 Women (14 and under) Jessica Meyer 25:06 Katie James Niagara Falls, ON 25:08 Adrianna Garisto 25:21 Women (15 to 19) Michelle Molodynia Niagara Falls, ON 19:59 Mariah Kelly Niagara Falls, ON 20:54 Megan Matkowski Niagara Falls, ON 27:00 Women (20 to 24) Denise McLaughlin Ireland 23:02 Katie Thorpe 32:40 Kim Reker Port Colborne, ON 37:26 Women (25 to 29) Candace Knott Niagara Falls, ON 24:08 Wendy Joon 29:52 Women (30 to 34) Amy Forte 27:45 Kristina Cargnelli 29:31 Angelina McKenna Niagara Falls, ON 29:50 Women (35 to 39) Stephanie Van Zandwyk 26:48 Sheri Ainslie 27:56 Heather Sveda Niagara Falls, ON 28:54 Women (40 to 44) Laura Fakla Niagara Falls, ON 24:26 Trish Sexton 25:14 Bailey Jenmeau 27:47 Women (45 to 49) Joanne Mickinley-Molodynia Niagara Falls, ON 22:08 Susan Tufford St. Catharines, ON 25:07 Deema Ferguson 28:54 Women (50 to 54) Jan Richardson 28:22 Jane Williams Niagara Falls, ON 29:29 Eileen Cote Niagara Falls, ON 30:06 Women (55 to 59) Anne Hamilton 27:57 Nancy Bateman Niagara Falls, ON 29:00 Colleen Gallen Women (65 to 69) Beverly Ferguson Loveid 29:38 Women (70 & Over) Dietland Winter St. Davids, ON 43:13 5th Annual CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race Results Overall Men’s Winner City Time Kyle Varley Niagara Falls, ON 18:02 Men (14 and under) Nick Smyth 20:59 Tyler Smith Ridgeway, ON 21:05 Devin Crosbie 24:15 Men (15 to 19) Curtis Sauve 18:18 Ryan Mecca 18:51 Marshall Vaughan 22:24 Men (20 to 24) Joshua Green 22:35 Phil Abruscato 26:33 Men (30 to 34) Jeff Atkins 20:32 Adam Rennie Niagara Falls, ON 21:25 Brad Johnston 22:15 Men (35 to 39) Jeff Nichols 22:32 Anthony Pingue Niagara Falls, ON 25:28 Mark Carl Welland, ON 26:01 Men (40 to 44) Perry Goodwin 18:05 Douglas Jackson Niagara Falls, ON 21:15 Mike Sauer 21:29 Men (45 to 49) Donald Bedell Niagara Falls, ON 30:40 Men (50 to 54) Geoff Ellis Niagara Falls, ON 23:21 Kenneth Meeking 26:26 Michael Cogswell St. Catharines, ON 27:42 Men (55 to 59) Tom Meka Angola, NY 23:54 Denis Racine 26:14 Kenneth Wakilich 30:34 Men (60 to 64) Wayne Bailey St. Catharines, ON 24:30 Tom Gibbs Niagara Falls, ON 30:16
