[ Back to Media ] Winter Festival of Lights Designated an Ontario Festival & Event of Distinction Niagara Falls, ON – The Winter Festival of Lights (WFOL) is pleased to announce it was honoured by the Ontario Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Monique Smith, at the 23rd Annual Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) Conference held earlier this month, as one of 18 Ontario “Festivals & Events of Distinction.” FEO selected the Winter Festival of Lights as one of 18 recipients on the basis of their ability to generate significant international, trans-border, domestic or intra-provincial travel, while commanding top-of-mind levels of consumer awareness and levels of respect from one’s peers within the genre in which they operate. “We are extremely honoured to be recognized among such notable events as the Canadian National Exhibition, Canadian Tulip Festival, Niagara Wine Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival,” stated Dino Fazio, WFOL General Manager. “It is a credit to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, staff and Board members.” -30- About the Winter Festival of Lights Celebrating its 27th Anniversary, Canada’s foremost illumination festival, the Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls, Ontario runs from November 7, 2009 to January 4, 2010. It boasts over 3 million lights and more than 120 spectacular animated lighting displays, along with a calendar full of festive events including brilliant fireworks performances, Winter Festival Candle Light Stroll, Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run, Concerts, Stage Performances, and so much more. It attracts over 1.3 million people annually and was selected as a Top 100 Internationally Known Event by the American Bus Association and a 2009 Top 100 Ontario Festival by Festivals & Events Ontario.
