[ Back to Media ] Rink at the Brink Offers Outdoor Ice Skating Steps Away from Niagara Falls Niagara Falls, ON – The Winter Festival of Lights (WFOL) is proud to announce the launch of Niagara’s newest wintertime attraction slated to open next month. The Rink at the Brink, a 60’ W x 120’ L refrigerated, outdoor ice rink will offer public ice skating in an iconic setting similar to the Rink at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City yet even more dramatic, as the Rink at the Brink is situated a stone’s throw from the “brink” of the Horseshoe Falls, offering breathtaking views and a magical outdoor Niagara Falls ice skating experience. So whether it’s a family looking for a fun way to spend the day or a couple rekindling their romance, they’ll soon be able to experience Niagara Falls from a new perspective – while ice skating just steps away from one of the most-famous natural attractions in the world. Located across from the newly renovated Table Rock Centre, the Rink at the Brink will be open daily (10:00 am - 10:00 pm) until February 28, 2010. It will provide recreational ice skating, skate, helmet and locker rentals, as well as skating lessons for groups and individuals. It can also host special functions such as corporate holiday parties, birthdays and unique marriage proposal opportunities. Adult admission with skate rental is $9.99 and $8.00 without skate rental while admission for children (12 & under) is $7.99 and $5.75, respectively with helmet rental included in the package price for children under the age of seven. “The prospect of ice skating just steps away from the magnificent sights and sounds of Niagara Falls will quickly make the Rink at the Brink the quintessential Canadian wintertime experience!” enthused Joe Miszk, WFOL Chair. “This is a fantastic complement to the Festival’s programming and we think it’s going to be a huge hit with both local residents and visitors to Niagara Falls.” At approximately two-thirds the size of a regulation NHL rink, the Rink at the Brink facility will be removed from the site and stored after each season save for its refrigeration unit and storage facility. With the unique weather conditions experienced near the brink of the falls, the Rink at the Brink will be covered by a steel and canvass roof and wall structure (80’ W x 140’ L x 36’ H) with 20’ wide, clear-span wall panels along its eastern side (facing the falls) that provide excellent views of the falls in all weather conditions.
