Volunteers Make it Happen!
We'd like to thank all the volunteers who dedicated their time to make last year's Winter Festival of Lights (WFOL) a huge success. We could not have done it without your support because we know that Volunteers Make it Happen! In fact, WFOL volunteers made it happen to the tune of over 4,300 hours of time contributed last year - quite a feat.
We Need You!
Join us year round as a Committee member or just pitch-in at events throughout the Festival. Volunteering is the perfect opportunity to meet new people, get involved in your community, and learn new skills. Being part of the WFOL Volunteer team is an experience you don't want to miss! So if you'd like to help make the 27th Annual Winter Festival of Lights an illuminating experience for over 1 million visitors, check out our available volunteer opportunities.
Going Live!We are excited to be using a new volunteer management system for 2009. This is a web-based system that allows both the volunteer and Festival staff greater flexibility and control over the volunteer management process. To learn more, click the volunteer button in the top right.
Student Bursary
The Winter Festival of Lights and Cataract Savings & Credit Union have created a Student Volunteer Bursary Program to encourage student volunteerism and to assist students in achieving their Community Involvement Hours. The applicant must currently be enrolled as a full time student at a secondary school based in Niagara Falls, Niagara College or Brock University and volunteer a minimum of twenty (20) hours with the WFOL from November 7, 2009 to January 4, 2010. Up to ten (10) students will receive a $200 bursary which will be placed in a CSCU Education Savings Account and will be awarded at the WFOL Volunteer Appreciation Party. The bursaries will be distributed to those applicants with the most volunteer hours contributed to the WFOL.
Rick Stokes Exceptional Volunteer Award
The Rick Stokes Exceptional Volunteer Award was created to recognize a Winter Festival of Lights Volunteer that has gone above and beyond the customary volunteer role and demonstrated exceptional volunteerism. Congratulations to our 2008 recipient Lois Finkbeiner!
