Without question, volunteers have been at the heart of the Winter Festival of Lights since its inception in 1983. Thanks to their devotion, efforts and high spirits, thousands of people have enjoyed the Festival every year.

People become volunteers for a variety of reasons. Most do so to be in the thick of things and to have fun and meet people. For others, the Winter Festival of Lights is an extraordinary opportunity for them to gain experience in their field of study and thus increase their chances of landing a job. All of our volunteers have one special trait that brings them together: they all want the Winter Festival of Lights to succeed and they do their utmost to make it a success ...and have fun along the way!

The ideal volunteer is flexible enough to fill other positions than just the one he or she signed up for; should have a sense of humour yet know when to be serious; be outgoing and able to interact with crowds; and most importantly, expect to have fun while volunteering.

While the festival has many return volunteers, we are always on the lookout for new faces as this year we anticipate the need for nearly 400 volunteers. We do ask that volunteers be at least 16 years old and we will find plenty of jobs for everyone.

At the conclusion of the Festival, a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner is held as a token of appreciation to all for their outstanding support. At the dinner, volunteers have a chance to win prizes while a DJ spins the tunes for an evening of fun and dancing.
